Blood Test Evaluations

Blood Test Evaluations

I have offered my patients standard blood tests for over 30 years. I now have the ability to analyse the standard measurements much more deeply.

The standard blood tests run by most doctors are a great way to screen for deep explanations of health problems. In essence, the panels of tests known as the CBC / Chem 23 are valuable to see if you are “broken”.

The CBC is the complete blood count. The size, shape, and absolute numbers of your red and white blood cells allow us to assess your immune status, nutritional status, and your ability to deliver oxygen throughout your body.

The Chem 23 panel goes much deeper. It allows us to assess your: blood sugar status; how you are processing your dietary fats, such as triglycerides and cholesterol; your protein status; your mineral levels, also known as your electrolyte status; your enzyme levels to assess levels of organ and tissue function and insult; and organ function, such as how well your kidneys are working.

Every blood test measurement, for every medical lab, has a normal range. This range is based on all of the blood tests run in a previous time period. Usually months, but possibly years. The inherent problem with calculating normal blood test ranges is that the ranges will not be for ideal healthy people, but rather for all the sick people tested.

Optimal DX is a blood test evaluation service. I have known about this service for many years. It uses ideal ranges for blood tests. It also uses a computerized system to determine interrelationships between lab measurements that could appear normal at first.

Optimal DX was developed by Dr. Dicken Weatherby ND. He graduated from the same naturopathic school that I did, the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland Oregon. When I was in my fourth year he was in his first year of studies. So, Dr. Weatherby has been in Practice for 28 years. Dr. Weatherby has focused on assessing deeper meanings for standard blood tests.

I have used the Optimal DX system on patient test results with remarkable results. A new topic becoming common is data mining. With the Optimal DX system I am better able to “data mine” standard blood tests for deeper assessments and better healthcare results.

The colourful printouts, the body system assessments, and the treatment priorities that I am now able to access are great! I am really enjoying being able to offer this deeper level of care to my patients.
