One of the most effective treatments I use in practice is Ozone Therapy. Earlier this year, I attended advanced training on Ozonated Glycerin (OG) — a new-to-me form that’s since become an important addition to my ozone therapy toolkit.
My Journey with Ozone Therapy
I was introduced to ozone therapy in my second year of naturopathic training through a colleague connected to Dr. Bill Turska of Mist, Oregon — a pioneer in the field with over four decades of experience.
My clinical introduction came in West Vancouver, where Drs. Kelly Farnsworth and Gaetano Morello used ozone to help regenerate spinal discs. I became certified in ozone therapy in 1996, later training with Dr. Frank Shallenberger (creator of Prolozone) and Dr. Robert Rowan, who developed Ten Pass Ozone Therapy. It was through Dr. Rowan that I first learned of Ozonated Glycerin.
Discovering Ozonated Glycerin
To my surprise, I found that OG has been extensively studied in Japan since 2001, though its medical use dates back much further. A fascinating textbook, The Therapeutic Applications of Hydrozone and Glycozone by Charles Marchand, was published in New York in 1900 — over a century ago. Japanese researchers later remarked that if they had known about this text earlier, it would have saved them a decade of study.
How OG Works
Ozonated Glycerin shares many of the same benefits as ozone gas: it helps stimulate and balance the immune system, aiding the body’s natural defenses against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites while supporting tissue regeneration.
I’ve begun using OG for a range of concerns, including:
- Skin changes from sun exposure
- Dental infections
- Digestive irritation
- Joint and muscle pain
- Lung infections and congestion
While some doctors inject it, I prefer topical application, where it is well absorbed and effective.
A Traditional Ingredient, Modernized
Glycerin has long been valued as a hydrating and soothing skin emollient. When infused with ozone, it gains restorative and immune-balancing properties — combining tradition with modern innovation.
At your next visit, ask me how Ozonated Glycerin might be added to your care plan. It’s a safe, simple, and powerful addition to your healing toolkit.
